Meet the 2010 Virginia Vipers Coaching Staff
"The mediocre coach tells; the good one explains; the superior one shows; the great one inspires."
Head Coach Kedrick Moody- leads the 2010 Va Vipers into their third season of Pro Minor League football. The Vipers have compiled an overall record of 22 wins and 3 defeats. Coach Moody led the Vipers in their inaugural season in the NAFL and finished the regular season undefeated 10-0 while winning the Virginia Division title and finished the league with an overall record of 11-1.
The second season, the Va Vipers entered the RAFL and compiled another stellar regular season record of 9-1 and finished the year 11-2. The Virginia Vipers were also crowned the Mid-Atlantic Division winners. The Vipers finished the 2009 season ranked 27th in the nation out of 445 ranked teams in the final Semi Pro BCS rankings, ranked 23rd in the final top 25 national coaches poll, ranked 9th in the south east region poll USFAssociation, and lastly 23rd in the American top 25 poll
Offensive Coordinator Shawn Wright- leads the 2010 Virgina Vipers offense into battle this season. Coach Wright is a dedicated coach who has been apart of the Virginia Vipers from the very beginning. Coach Wright's dedication and loyalty led to his current promotion as the Offensive Coordinator. Coach Wright held other duties in the previous two seasons to include Wide Receiver Coach and Special Teams Coordinator. Coach Wright inherits several key veterans as well some key explosive first year Vipers. The Offense will continue its winning ways under Coach Wright for the 2010 season and beyond.
Running backs coach Alan Jones Sr- First year Running backs coach leads a stable of backs that can get the job done. Coach Jones brings a wealth of knowledge and has previously served in roles as a High School Coordinator and also coached in the pro minor league ranks as well. Coach Jones will also serve as the Vipers Special Teams Coordinator. The Vipers look forward to the advice and leadership Coach Jones can bring to the Vipers Organization.
Offensive Line Coach- Howie Mitchell leads the Vipers Offensive line after two years of being in the trenches as a Viper lineman. Coach Mitchell brings a lot of experience and leadership to the Vipers. Coach Mitchell has coached linemen at Varina and Atlee as well. Coach Mitchell is a welcomed addition and a key member to the overall team's success.
Wide Receivers/Tight Ends- Aswad Mclane joins the Vipers as a first year WR coach. Coach Mclane leads a veteran group with several new faces that look to play a vital role in the overall success of the offense. The Viper Wide receivers/tight ends will continue to give opposing defense coordinators head aches trying to match up.
Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers- Coach Moody leads the Virginia Vipers defense again for the third year. The Vipers defense has been the the identity of the Vipers for the past two seasons. The defense posted 6 shutouts last season in route to giving up fewer than 8pts per game. The defense returns 10 starters from last year which doesn't look good for opposing offenses. The linebackers are an experienced group sprinkled with some key new comers to the unit. Expect the Vipers defense to swarm to the ball, play fast and be relentless in the pursuit of dominating opposing teams in the 2010 season.
Defensive Line Coach- Damon " Debo" Kearsley returns for his second stint with the Va Vipers defense. Coach Kearsley leads a veteran group of defensive lineman who will be the base and foundation of the Virginia Vipers defense. The Vipers Defensive line will be smaller in numbers but not in experience. Coach Kearsley main goals this year for the group..."Harass the qb, penetrate the back field, and stuff the run."
Defensive Back Coach- Eddie Smith has the opportunity to lead the Vipers defensive back to new heights in the 2010 season. Coach Smith enters his first year in coaching but played with and for Coach Moody since the start of the decade 2000. Coach Smith is a highly decorated defensive back with the natural ability to lead by example. Coach Smith inherits some key veterans and some very promising new rookies.
